It’s no secret that the Atlantic Avenue Subway Station is very busy. You can catch a train from here to go just about anywhere in Brooklyn. Second to Times Square – 42nd Street PABT , this station provides the most transfers. Connections are available to the B, D, N, D, N, Q, R, 2, 3, 4, 5, and the LIRR.
But exactly how busy is the Atlantic Avenue Station?
According to MTA’s Annual Subway Ridership Statistics released earlier this year, 13,690,678 commuters used the Atlantic Avenue – Barclays Center subway station in 2015. This number makes the station the busiest in Brooklyn and the 21st busiest in the entire NYC subway system.
In addition, the nearby commercial district is also responsible for the high foot traffic. The Barclays Center Arena is home to 2 major league sporting teams (Nets and Islanders) and hosts several other entertainment events. Moreover, located nearby are the Atlantic Terminal and the Atlantic Center. These are gigantic shopping malls which house several department stores and big-box retailers.
In addition, the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has a location here.
With so many stores nearby and a myriad of subway connections, it is not surprising that the Atlantic Avenue – Barclays Station is the busiest in Brooklyn.
